Probably because you can actually buy devices with USB 3.0, and at a reasonable price.
I think Thunderbolt is a great idea, and it would be super on the MacBook Air (personally I'd love to see a Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet adapter), which is why I named it in the above list, but USB 3.0 is much more widespread and so the peripherals are cheaper.
Compare it to FireWire 800 devices: It would have been great to have an external drive with that connection but I never bought one because in the end it was too much of a price difference. It's a lot easier to put up with USB 2 speeds if it costs 40% less than FW800.
I hope Apple and intel will push Thunderbolt agressively and won't let it become a niche port like the way FW800 ended up. So yes, I do think there is a high risk of it becoming the next firewire.
Personally I'd prefer both but I don't see it happening in the next MBA, not until intel integrates it in their chipset.

TB can daisy chain up to FOUR 1080p HD streams simultaneously (if I recall correctly) while I don't think USB 3 can do even 1.
Add this to the fact that Intel WANTS this tech to reach mass adoption and will make the tech available at cheap prices, it's a no brainer that TB WILL be adopted. Even IF TB ended up being a $20 or so royalty like FW, it so easily outclasses USB 3 that I would readily pay for it.

If you can watch an HD movie over your satilite or cable system then somehow the cable or stilite company found a way to electronically distribute the HD content to you. That 25GB of data found a way to get into your house. Not only did it get into the huse but it did it in real time

I think Wal-mart wanted cheaper dvd prices to be more competitive with Target and now Target is trying to get the same treatment. The winning solution is that the studios will probably allow Wal-mart and Target to sell downloadable movies, too, and everyone will be happy except for Wal-mart who will still want cheaper dvd prices.

The iMac 27" is my favorite.. none of the all-in-ones it's compared to are even the same size on that chart. Even if you build a computer with the same equipment it's more:

actually, dell makes insanely great computers. their stock video cards generally aren't very good, but you can fix that easily.
apple needs to catch up quickly. it's getting sad and pathetic. especially with the rumors that apple is just now scrambling to find someone to manufacture/replace the G5 or equivalent.

I'm seeing my friends head off to uni. And in this current economic climate they are looking for a cheap but durable laptop to do their work on. Windows 7 is the best OS offering from Microsoft yet.

A nice contrast of warm and cold colors. The diagonal framing is severe enough to look deliberate and works well with the surreal lighting. If you were to take another whack at it, you might consider placing an object or a person in a window or in the doorway to serve as a focal point. As it is, there isn't really one place in the frame that serves as the primary visual pay-off or subject of the image. Also, you might try an exposure that gives you some more range of tonality, since the blacks are really crushed here, and they occupy large areas of the frame.
Of the three shots I got off that night this was the best one in my opinion. The others just had too much light. Although they didn't have nearly the black fields of this shot (other shots (http://itwontshootitself.blogspot.com/2010/02/night-light.html)). I have printed this out at 20x30 for somebody and really liked the enlargement.
I get your suggestioin about a focal point. That brings up some interesting questions about how to light it. It would have to be very deliberate so as not to spill into the red and blue. As it was I ran around in the dark with a flashlight to light the scene. The total exposure time was 66.7 seconds. :) Perhaps even a faint image of somebody sitting in the foreground. Maybe even a ghostly figure -- only in the frame temporarily so that the cabin bleeds through.
I shot fully open at f-1.4 (it was a dark night). There really wasn't anything of interest in the black areas. That's not to say I couldn't stage anything. The biggest challenge was that I was in a "day use only" area and was worried the park ranger was going to run me off at any moment. My biggest complaint is that they reds are blown out in the right hand window.
The location is only about 45 minutes away. Perhaps I'll give it another go sometime. I've added some strobes and remote triggers to my kit since then. Although I do like the uneven lighting from the flashlight. The way the blue streaks it make me think of an underwater scene.

Strange question: can you use the Firmware Restoration CD to update your firmware? This disc is designed to fix a bad update from CD, bypassing the hard disk and the RAID array. Seems to me that it should work, in theory.

I tried this with my RAID0 Mac Pro and it doesn't work I am afraid. I can't get it to update when you hold down the power button. I really think that Apple have to address this problem. RAID0 is not going to be very unusual with the new Mac Pros.

Yeah, I knew this was inevitable. (I'm running a 1.25 GHz G4 iMac.) That being said, for the applications I use (and this won't be one of them), I honestly don't see myself being forced to buy an Intel machine for a loooong time. Just because Adobe has decided to rpoceed in this manner doesn't mean other companies will follow suit. And you can bet that Apple definitely won't, at least not for a few more years. Heck, Classic was supported until what, last year essentially? And the G3 machines up until Leopard? ;) :cool:

I think for things like an OS there will always be the need for some kind of external medium (e.g. if you install from scratch - e.g. harddrive died and you need to install a new OS) ... but USB stick would be a nice alternative to DVD (I'm not using my DVD drive for anything and might want to skip it in the next update if there is an option to get a second drive instead of DVD)

I can't imagine a fancy Swiss watch is any different from a Citizen or a Seiko. I would recommend going to one of those watch kiosks in a shopping mall and picking out a new band. Most of these places will install it for free.
OP, please don't take your $2,500 Omega to a mall kiosk!!!
I have an Omega Seamaster and changing the steel bracelet can be tricky. Take your time and shop for a quality band online- I suggest taking a look at what the folks at the watchuseek.com forums have to offer. There are a lot of members who make and sell their own leather bands and they're usually very affordable and can be made to order. They even have a forum dedicated to straps and bracelets (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f222/). If nothing else, they can at least point you in the right direction and suggest a good manufacturer to buy from.
Once you order a band and receive it, take it to an authorized jeweler (preferably someplace that sells the Omega brand) and let the experts do it. They'll have all the right tools and won't scratch or scuff the steel, like the teenager at the mall might, and they'll usually do it for free or for a very nominal fee. I'm sure you can probably even learn to do it yourself by browsing some of the watchuseek forums.

Just having beat Portal 2 on my 11" MBA with a 1.6ghz core 2 duo and the 320m, playing it on max settings, native resolution at ~40fps was GREAT.
This isn't possible on the Intel graphics, it'd tip just below smoothly playable at these settings. The CPU is barely a bottleneck, seriously. What other 11" device can run a modern game maxed out?! Thank god for the Source engine, and for Apple's 320M+C2D choice.
